Gemstone spotlight: Kyanite, for finding your voice

There's a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from editing yourself down all of the time.
Not saying the thing, or softening it to please your audience. Maybe you are qualifying it to help others see your point of view, or you just swallow it entirely. Spending so much energy managing how you come across to everyone else, that you lose track of what you actually wanted to say in the first place.
I think about that feeling a lot as I am getting older and how I want it less a part of my life.
Kyanite is said to help and I think there’s no harm in trying!
It's an awesome gemstone with deep, dark blues and a natural striation that catches light like icicles! People have always attached meanings to gemstones and for Kyanite it’s all about clarity, truth and communication - linked to the throat chakra. The part of you that speaks.
What I find most interesting about kyanite, though, is that it's one of the only stones that's said not to hold onto negative energy. It doesn't accumulate things and so doesn't need clearing or moonlight rituals to stay clean. It just moves things through and lets them go.
Which is a pretty good philosophy for communication, actually.

There's a difference between truth that's sharp and truth that's clear and Kyanite always feels like the second kind to me. The energy of saying what you mean and meaning it, but with kindness. Knowing your own mind well enough to speak from it and hold boundaries.
When I set kyanite I always reach for silver. It doesn't need anything elaborate, the stone shines bright as the centrepiece. Some pieces come out silvery blue like early morning and others are as dark and deep as open water.

Wearing it
Kyanite pairs pretty much with everything, but its important you pair it with what you need clarity around.
- With moonstone, it becomes intuition and communication together: knowing what you feel and being able to say it.
- With citrine, truth meets warmth.
- With amethyst, it's calm confidence.
I'd reach for it on days when you have something to say and you're not quite sure how to say it yet. Or on days when you're learning to listen, either to someone else, or to yourself.

Kyanite is for the people who've spent too long making themselves smaller. Who've been endlessly patient and endlessly accommodating and who are — slowly, carefully — finding their way back to what they actually think.
It's not a loud stone. It doesn't perform. It just hums, steadily, with something that feels a lot like integrity.
And sometimes that's exactly what you need on your hand.
