How jewellery can spark joy: Finding light on your low energy days

How Jewellery helps me feel like myself again (on the days I really don't)

Okay so here's the thing. Some days I wake up and I just don't have it. You know? No energy or motivation to tackle my to-do list, or the ability to look at my inbox without wanting to go back to sleep. Everything feels a bit grey and heavy and like its way too much effort.

And on those days, getting dressed feels pointless. Why bother, when you're just going to be tired anyway?

But I've noticed something. On the days I reach for a piece of jewellery, even just a ring I love, or my favourite pair of earrings, something feels different. Not dramatically. Not in a "wow I'm cured" way. Just a tiny bit of me comes back online.

It sounds so small, right? But I think that's kinda the point.

When everything feels like a lot, you don't need a whole routine or a wellness overhaul or a 47-step morning ritual. You just need one small thing that feels like you. Something that catches the light when you move your hand, or sits cool against your collarbone, or just makes you think, ‘yeah, okay, I like that’.

It's not about looking good for anyone else. It's more internal than that. I'm still here. I still care about myself, a little bit, even today.

I've started thinking of it as a ritual rather than a routine and for me, mentally the difference matters more than I expected. A routine is brushing your teeth. A ritual is choosing the ring that matches your mood, or your lack of one, and taking three seconds to just notice it. That's it. That's the whole thing.

And honestly? There's something a tiny bit rebellious about letting yourself have beauty on a bad day. Like, exhaustion culture wants you to just push through and feel terrible and earn rest eventually, maybe, if you're lucky. Putting on something pretty when you're not okay is a quiet little middle finger to all of that.

You don't have to wait until you deserve nice things. You can just have them now, today, in whatever state you're in.

That's what jewellery does for me, anyway. It's a tiny spark. And some days, tiny is exactly enough.
