How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home (Without the Stress)
Share
Sooo… What’s My Ring Size? (Let’s figure it out together 💍)
We’ve all been there. You’re eyeing up a stunning ring - maybe it’s got a dreamy moonstone, a gleam of silver, or maybe it’s whispering secrets from another realm (okay, maybe that’s just me). You’re ready to click “Add to Cart,” but then… the dreaded dropdown:
Choose Your Size.
Cue existential crisis.
I get it. Ring sizing can feel weirdly intimidating, especially if you’re buying online. And because I hand-make everything with love and starlight (and okay, a few tools), resizing isn’t usually an option once it’s made. So here’s a handy, no-stress, very human guide to figuring out your ring size, without needing a jeweller's degree or a crystal ball.
Option 1: Use a Free App
There are some actually decent ring sizing apps out there now! Try Ring Sizer by Jason Withers or Ring Sizer - both are free and easy to use. Simply place a ring you already wear on your phone screen and match it to the digital guide, like techy magic.
Pro tip: Make sure you’re using a ring that fits the same finger you’re buying for. (Yes, your index and ring fingers are different sizes. Your body is a temple… of chaos.)
Option 2: Measure an existing ring
Got a ring that already fits perfectly? You can measure the inner diameter in millimeters and match it to my online size chart. No ring sizer? No problem, just grab a ruler.
Here’s an example for you: If your ring’s inner diameter is 17.2mm, that’s a UK size N (or US size 6.75-ish). Roughly. Like with jeans, different brands can fit a little differently, but this will get you close.
Option 3: The paper/thread trick
Low-tech and surprisingly accurate if you’re careful.
- Cut a thin strip of paper or grab a piece of string.
- Wrap it snugly (but not too tightly!) around the base of the finger
- Mark where it overlaps.
- Measure the length in mm.
-
Look up a sizing chart and boom - size found!
Beware: String can stretch and paper can bend, so don’t yank it too tight. If it feels like you’re tying a spell circle around your finger, ease up.
Option 4: Pop into a Jeweller
Yes, the old-school option. If you’re out and about and see a jewellery shop, they’ll often measure your size for free. You can also ask at local markets or craft fairs; small business owners tend to look out for each other.
Option 5: Grab a Free ring sizer (Yep, really)

A few final tips from your jewelry witch
- Your fingers swell and shrink depending on the time of day, weather, salt intake, and general cosmic vibes. Measure at room temp when you’re relaxed.
- If you’re between sizes, go up, not down. Comfy is cute.
-
Thinking of stacking rings? Measure for the base ring and size up slightly for any stackers above it.
TL;DR:
You’ve got options for finding your ring size:
- Phone app
- Old ring + ruler
- Paper trick
- Pop to a jeweller
